By Mpho Mokoena: In a shocking development, three suspects have made an appearance at the Virginia Magistrates’ Court in connection with the hijacking and kidnapping of Khatliso Edwin Makhetha, a lecturer employed at the Welkom campus of the Central University of Technology (CUT). The incident occurred on May 5 when Makhetha, 28, from Meloding, Virginia, went missing along with his black Ford Fiesta.
The suspects, identified as Mokhali Albert Lekesi (37), Mosebi Mahajane (43), and Yonela Samacala (25), were apprehended in June and are currently facing charges of kidnapping and hijacking.
During their court appearance, they opted to remain in custody, abandoning any request for bail. The case has been adjourned until Wednesday, July 12, to allow for further investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, Makhetha’s vehicle was discovered in Lesotho, where authorities arrested two individuals for alleged possession of a stolen vehicle. The suspects are currently awaiting extradition to South Africa, where they will face legal proceedings.
In the ongoing search for Makhetha, the investigation team continues its relentless efforts to locate the missing lecturer. As the case unfolds, concerned parties await further updates and hope for a swift resolution to this distressing situation.
