By Molefi Sompane: The Hawks in the Free State are investigating a case of fire that broke out at the official residence of the Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana in Bloemfontein.
According to Hawks Spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo they are investigating a case of arson.
“We are hoping to discover what led to the building catching fire. We are waiting for the fire to be totally put down for our investigators to begin with investigation,” Singo says.
He adds that those who works in the area and list of everyone who came to the house will be utilised.
“This is the house for the Premier and it is guarded by the South African Police Service, meaning each of those who works in the premises can be helpful in the investigation. I can’t mention how investigation will go but out team will work on the matter with every peace, “he adds.
Although Singo could not provide time frame to complete the investigation. He concludes that: “We firstly got find if the fire was criminally set then we shall know the direction of our investigation. “
Meanwhile Premier Dukwana’s spokesperson Sello Dithebe told Free State Insider that the fire broke around 09:30am on Thursday.
“The Free State Provincial Government hereby confirms that the Free State House, main house caught fire. The fire broke out at 9: 30 AM this morning. The first floor is severely damaged and the roof has caved in.”
Mangaung Metro spokesperson Qondile Khedama confirmed the news. “We recieved the report and our fire fighters found a building reported as of Residence of the Premier in fire, there’s no reports of casualties found.”
It is not yet known if the building was insured, if it is not, it will be second high profile building after National Parliament building that was found not to be insured.
Meanwhile Premier Dukwana has called for calm. “We are hopeful that investigation will provide answers required.
Dukwana was sworn in as Free State Premier, a month ago after the forced resignation of Sisi Ntombela, who had been recalled by the ANC provincial executive committee because of her poor performance in delivering basic service to the people of Free State Province.
Meanwhile workers at the Premier’s residence have refused to speak to media.
