By Staff Writer: Maggie Skosana, the municipal manager of the Nkangala district in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, has been missing for the three days.
Skosana and her driver, Gugu Mtsweni, were abducted on Thursday, 20 October, in front of the municipal building by men posing as police officers.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
The police have found Skosana’s car, her wheelchair, and her bag.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said: “A case of kidnapping has been registered at Middleburg. It is said that a white sedan came to them and the occupants were wearing police regalia.
“They stopped them and the two vehicles followed each other. That’s when the municipal manager and her driver were last seen.
“During our investigation we found the vehicle near Kriel mine with a wheelchair and bag belonging to Skosana.”
Leah Mabuza, the Mayor of Nkangala, urged anyone who might have information to get in touch with the police right away.
“It is our belief they will be found in due course. We ask everyone to allow the police to do the investigation unhindered. We urge all of us to remain calm and give the authorities space to resolve this difficult situation,” she said.
“A statement shall be issued as and when there are new developments on the matter.
“May the almighty give Nkangala district municipality, the Skosana and Mtsweni families strength in these trying times,” the mayor added.
