Mother Nature demolish houses in Marquard

Marquard: Hundreds of people in Marquard in the eastern Free State had no place to sleep and power cut on Monday, November 11 due to heavy stormy rains.

According to the residents the rain that was also with thunders caused power to cut before heavy winds could even cut off the electricity poles and cables causing the entire farming area to be dark.

Residents who lost their houses appealed with their Setsoto Local municipality to provide them with temporary structures.

Marquard is one of the Towns in the east of Free State that still needs adequate drinking water.

It is not the first incident where mother nature hit the area.

Meanwhile the Premier of the Free State Me. Sisi Ntombela had called for calm adding that Cogta will assess the area.

Speaking to Cogta spokesperson Zolile Lobe the municipality would seek their help where they cannot help.

“As part of the provincial government we will wait for municipality to notify us and we will gladly help,” he said.

Meanwhile Eskom called on the community to be careful with electric wires. It has since cut power.
